City Limits to Clarksburg

Planning is underway for the Clarksburg Branch Line Trail (CBLT) Extension project, a multi-use trail that will better serve bicycle, pedestrian, and equestrian users, and increase connectivity between West Sacramento and Clarksburg.

About the Project

The CBLT extension includes 6.4 miles of trail that will provide a key link within the Great California Delta Trail and SACOG’s Sacramento Regional Trail Network. Design of this segment of the CBLT is another step toward achieving the vision of a connected recreational corridor that is decades in the making and will be enjoyed by future generations. The project is currently in the environmental clearance process, which will continue through 2025. Design is anticipated from summer 2025 to summer 2026.

The CBLT Extension project area extends from the south City Limits of West Sacramento at the South River Road levee access and the former railway right-of-way owned by the City to extend the trail to the south. The trail will extend south until intercepting Willow Point Road and then will extend west of Willow Point Road in Clarksburg. The trailhead is proposed to connect north of the Old Sugar Mill.

Project Highlights

Promote connectivity between neighborhoods and communities by constructing a multi-use trail serving bicycle, pedestrian, and equestrian users.
Enhance regional communication by integrating a utility corridor with high-speed fiberoptic connectivity.
Create opportunities that connect the community with nature and encourage active transportation.
Provide educational opportunities through elements such as interpretive signs that reflect local railroad and settlement history, share facts about local agriculture, honor Indigenous peoples, and encourage habitat conservation.

January 2025 Open Houses

January 2025 Community Open Houses

The Yolo-Delta Trail Coalition hosted two community open houses to share information about the Clarksburg Branch Line Trail Extension to Clarksburg.

The first open house was held in Clarksburg at the Clarksburg Library Activity Room (52915 Netherlands Road) on Tuesday January 21st.

The second open house was held at the West Sacramento Recreation Center (2801 Jefferson Blvd) on Thursday, January 23.

Project staff introduced the projects to the communities in West Sacramento and Clarksburg. We shared information about project benefits and the preliminary alternatives for the trail route.

Meeting attendees shared their excitement, ideas, and concerns with project staff. Attendees were mostly enthusiastic for the opportunities presented by a safe active transportation route between West Sacramento and Clarksburg. They were also supportive of the plans to use the alignment to extend high-speed telecommunications lines farther into the Delta. They shared their suggestions about trail rest areas, educational opportunities, and landscape design. They also helped the project by sharing their concerns about the need to prevent conflicts between farm chemical and dust drift onto the trail and trail users, and their worries that people forced to live outdoors might choose to camp on the trail.
